FIRE CAFE is a cool and suave bar with an artistic atmosphere run by Italian Simone.
We had a small crowd, due to covid, Obon and a government storm alert. However, what they lacked in numbers, they made up in enthusiasm and interest.
However this gave me the chance to play some of the songs that I love, but are not as 'main stream popular' as I would play for a big audience.
Frenetic dancing behind the bar by 'The Man Formally Known as Nick' [now 'TROY' when in Dance Mode].
REALLY APPRECIATED the 'Chef Who Couldn't Leave' [sorry - I don't know your name. NOTE: 'Troy' is already taken]. Having finished his shift cooking up the delicious Fire Cafe food, he stayed later and later, enjoying my music! He kept saying "I can't leave! I just can't leave! I am waiting for the next great song!" HUGE THANKS!!
Caspar [fellow Aussie] enjoyed, but 'retired sick' - get well soon cobber!
I only regret: I had no time to stay after the gig to eat the delicious meal you offered to cook me. My excuse was real - I actually JUST MADE the LAST TRAIN on NANKAI [12:08].
Yep - all by myself I performed THICK AS A BRICK [well, a very, very shortened version!] Also: WONDERING ALOUD [a lovely, quiet acoustic song by Ian Anderson]. In the last set I medleyed Tull's LOCOMOTIVE BREATH with Doobie Brothers LONG TRAIN RUNNING. ['Troy' was going 'dance crazy' behind the bar!!]
I am really pleased that I could perform GOING TO CALIFORNIA [in OPEN G TUNING] in set 1 and in set 2 STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN [yep - just me up on stage] .
I also performed finger picking songs, such as Paul Simon's PEACE LIKE A RIVER, James Taylor's FIRE AND RAIN, Sting's FRAGILE and Eric Clapton's CHANGE THE WORLD. I got SPACEY with David Bowie's SPACE ODDITY and performed the POLICE song [often called 'The Stalker Song' ha ha] EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE. Eagles' TAKE IT EASY provided some country rock.
One of my guitar and bass students at my GCG SCHOOL - FRED MERZ sat in on bass for Beatles' COME TOGETHER, Stevie Wonder's SUPERSTITION and Santana's BLACK MAGIC WOMAN. You did a good job Fred!!
I wanted to finish Set 2 with that medley LOCOMOTIVE BREATH / LONG TRAIN RUNNING. However, as mentioned the chef wouldn't let me. So I got Nick's feet going again with Kenny Logins' FOOTLOOSE and then, finally I finished with Lyndard Skynard's SWEET HOME ALABAMA.
So.... IF these songs and LOTS MORE in a similar vein interest you:
